About Us

Rays of Hope building front

Rays of Hope Children’s Grief Centre is a community outreach of HospiceMidland. We work with  children 4 years to 18 years who have suffered a loss due to death, divorce, or other painful transition.

Our Mission Statement is  To meet the unique needs of grieving children and their families.

We recognize at Rays of Hope, that children need to do the work of grief, and we focus primarily on peer support groups.

Rays of Hope provides a safe, neutral environment where grieving children have permission to express what they feel, and learn that they are not alone in dealing with the tough circumstances life sometimes brings.

Our goal at Rays of Hope is to provide a safe, neutral place for children to engage in the work of grief with their peers. It is our hope that children will be supported in understanding and accepting their new family unit, grow a stronger sense of self-esteem, and move towards healthy resolution of the changes that have taken place in their lives.

Trained volunteers act as facilitators of the peer support groups. None of the services provided by Rays of Hope are counseling or therapy sessions, but utilize peer support group environments with compassionate adults to guide, listen and support children while they express their feelings and fears, sort through their confusion and begin the healing process.

Since Rays of Hope is an outreach of Hospice Midland we do not charge for the services we provide.  No child or parent is charged for attending group here at Rays of Hope.  If you are interested in getting your child enrolled please just give us a call, email us, or stop by we would love to help you.  There is no formal referral required.

Because children are placed in groups with other children of similar ages and circumstances, participants begin to realize they are not alone.  Children use the creative arts as tools of expression and share and acquire coping skills, all while working through the tough issues that accompany grief.

Rays of Hope is also a member of the National Alliance for Grieving Children (NAGC).  This organization promotes awareness of the needs of children and teens grieving a death and provides education and resources for anyone who wants to support them... Because all grieving children deserve a chance to heal.  For more information please visit the NAGC's website.
